Over 150 Florida Virtual School (FLVS) students were honored on Tuesday at the annual Club Awards Day in Orlando. The ceremony celebrated honorees at the Rosen Centre Hotel, near the SeaWorld Orlando amusement parks off of I-4.

The students honored were chosen for how they showcase their talents and passions in the over 80 extracurricular clubs within FLVS. According to a statement issued by an FLVS spokesperson, the honorees were those who expressed their ‘creativity, leadership, and academic success’.

“An essential part of a student’s educational journey involves forming connections with other students,” said FLVS Student Activities Manager Mae Martin. “With more than 80 online clubs, there’s something for everyone at Florida Virtual School. These virtual clubs serve more than 9,000 students across the state and are a vibrant platform for them to connect, engage, and hone new skills that encourage confidence and a sense of community.”

Several of the invited students had the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they fostered in their extracurricular clubs and activities. Some of the highlights were as follows, per the FLVS:

  • ‘Calming yoga demonstration’ by the Mindfulness and Yoga Club
  • ‘Energetic tumbling and jump showcase with spirited cheers’ by the Cheer Club
  • ‘Lively mock debate on cats versus dogs’ by the Speech and Debate Club
  • ‘Creative skit titled The FLVS Chronicles following five students navigating the unique world of online education’ by the Drama Club
  • ‘Performance of Over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World’ by the Glee Club and American Sign Language Honor Society

Once these performances concluded, students from each FLVS club were honored for outstanding contributions for ‘dedication, leadership, creativity, and growth throughout the school year’.

“Florida Virtual School clubs enrich my experience with online learning by encouraging interactions and building connections with other students who share the same unique and niche interests as me,” said Monica Cortes, a senior in the FLVS Flex program. “It has been incredible to celebrate my fellow classmates’ achievements at Club Awards Day.”
