Flagler Executive Airport to Break Ground on New Terminal Tuesday

On Tuesday next week the Flagler Executive Airport is slated to break ground on the construction of a new terminal, the county government announced Tuesday. The groundbreaking will represent the first step toward a major expansion of the facilities at Flagler County’s only airport. The buildup to this step has been five years in the making.

By replacing a 40-year-old building, officials involved with the terminal project believe it will be transformative for the facility. “We essentially have a brand-new airport,” said Flagler Executive Airport Director Roy Sieger. “The general aviation terminal will be the capstone project for the transition from a rural landing strip to an executive airport and will be a grand gateway to our community.

The project is described as a general aviation terminal, an area which is designed to accommodate both private and business aviation. According to GlobeAir, general aviation terminals “offer exclusive facilities and services, including lounges, meeting rooms, and expedited security processes”.

When completed, the terminal will be 15,500 square feet according to the county. It will contain airport administrative offices, a fixed base operator space with service for visitors and tenants, plus appurtenant facilities, a public space, a meeting space, and full restrooms.

“Flagler Executive Airport has undergone a complete transformation over the past 16 years starting with the addition of the Air Traffic Control Tower,” Sieger continued. “All runways and taxiways have been reconstructed. Every runway and taxiway light has been upgraded to LED lighting, as well as all the airport guidance signs.”

The groundbreaking will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 29th at the Flagler Executive Airport (201 Airport Rd, Palm Coast, FL 32164). All interested members of the public are invited to attend by the Flagler County government.
