Florida Gas Prices Dip Below $3 Before Pulling Back Up

Gas prices in Florida briefly averaged under three dollars per gallon in recent days before subsequently drifting back over that mark, according to a report on the trend by AAA. The statewide average price bottomed out at $2.99 as of Friday, but by Tuesday the figure had risen back up to $3.11.

“Florida gas prices don’t hold still for very long,” said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins. “The state average moved lower through the week. By Friday, it dropped below $3, but rebounded through the weekend. Gas prices typically move lower through the winter months, because of colder weather, lower demand, and gasoline supply gains. These factors will likely help push gasoline back below $3 a gallon this month.”

Florida’s figure sits a bit above the national average as of Tuesday, with its $3.11 showing sitting a dime above America’s $3.01 average. The panhandle generally has the cheapest gas in the state with several counties still sitting below three dollars, while the Gulf coast and southern regions of the state are running a bit pricier.

As of Tuesday Flagler County had an average fuel cost of $3.14, compared to $3.12 in Volusia County and $3.13 in St. Johns County. BJ’s Wholesale Club remains the cheapest place to get gas in Flagler with a price of $2.68 for its members according to GasBuddy as of Monday, while Bunnell around US-1 and SR-100 are reported to be the cheapest non-exclusive prices in the county per GasBuddy users.

In Volusia County, the most affordable options are also exclusive: Sam’s Club at LPGA Blvd just off of the I-95 exit was reportedly at $2.84 as of Tuesday. Buc-ee’s across the street tends to be competitive with Sam’s Club, although those looking to take advantage must brave the consistently thick crowds to do so.
