Ormond Beach Man Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Into Vehicle

ⓒ Volusia Sheriff's Office

18-year-old Dylan Preis, an Ormond Beach resident, was arrested on Friday for allegedly firing into an occupied vehicle the day before, nearly killing multiple occupants inside. Preis has been in custody ever since, on over a dozen felony charges.

According to a report from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to George Anderson St late Thursday night by someone who informed them they’d been shot at while in their vehicle. Upon inspecting the vehicle, deputies found that the shots narrowly missed where the occupants’ heads and chests were, putting them in close proximity to death.

Detectives identified Preis as the primary suspect, saying that he’d recently had a personal falling out with the person who was driving the vehicle. Deputies questioned Preis about his alleged involvement, and he initially said he had nothing to do with it. After some time, however, Preis reportedly admitted he’d used his grandmother’s 9mm handgun in the shooting.

Preis has been charged with one count of attempted first degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, four counts of firing into a vehicle, and one count of criminal mischief, plus one count of violation of his juvenile probation. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond, where he remains as of the writing of this article.
