The Flagler Tiger Bay Club has voted to keep Jay Scherr as its president for the next four years, the organization announced on Friday. He was elected to the foremost position on the nonpartisan political club’s board, with several other key leadership posts being filled as well.
Scherr is a business consultant community leader known to many for his podcast, Business Minds Coffee Chat. In addition to Scherr, the Flagler Tiger Bay Club chose Marc Dwyer as its first vice president, Dr. Joe Saviak as its second vice president, Cheri Orr as its secretary, and Jim Uveges as its treasurer.
“Congratulations to our newly elected officers! I am honored and excited to serve our members for another term,” Scherr said in a prepared statement. “With a strong leadership team, including several new board members, a stellar lineup of regional and national speakers, and a clear set of priorities and goals, we are well positioned to build on our momentum and continue making a meaningful impact in our community. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated board to further our mission, strengthen civic engagement, and expand our reach.”
Much of the new leadership roles on the Flagler Tiger Bay Club’s board of directors is remaining intact. In 2023 the club elected Scherr to a two-year term as president, and did the same for Dwyer and Saviak as second vice presidents. Orr was last elected as recording secretary (a distinct job from secretary) and Uveges was also picked as the treasurer in that round of voting.
With Dwyer moving into the role of first vice president, he’ll take over that role from Amelia Fulmer. Orr will inherit the secretary position from Gary Walsh.
The Flagler Tiger Bay Club is a political club which meets monthly and frequently brings in guests from the business and political world to speak on their respective expertise. The group upholds civility, collaboration, and political diversity as key tenets of its membership. They also are known to hold candidate forums, meet-and-greets, and straw polls for local elections.
The broader Tiger Bay Club was established in Miami in 1964 by political consultant Stephen Paul Ross. It’s now grown into almost two dozen independent branches in Florida, each without a firm obligation to any strong central organization.
Chris Gollon is a Flagler County resident since 2004, as well as a staple of the local independent music scene and avid observer of Central Florida politics, arts, and recreation.
