Former School Board Member Trevor Tucker Files to Regain Seat

Former Flagler School Board member Trevor Tucker is running to get his seat back. Tucker has filed in the 2026 race for the District 4 seat, which he held for a decade. He faces incumbent Christy Chong, who ousted him from office in 2022, and fellow challenger Ron Long.

Should Tucker win, he’d likely be the most experienced School Board member by a significant margin. In the modern era only Colleen Conklin has put in more years on the Board, and she doesn’t appear to be preparing for another run.

“Trevor Tucker is entering the school board race in order to insure a quality education for children,” Tucker said in a prepared statement. “As a fiscally conservative candidate I will watch the budget closely to get the most value for students from tax dollars. I hope to make the board a more cohesive unified voice to better support our superintendent and amazing educators in our county.”

Board members Will Furry and Christy Chong have been in office since 2022, while Lauren Ramirez and Janie Ruddy have served since 2024. The District 1 seat is vacant, with one member having resigned and her governor-appointed replacement being tapped for a job in the Trump administration.

In his tenure on the School Board, Tucker was regarded as a moderate voice when matters became political. A traditional conservative, Tucker was a de facto a swing vote in times when pairs of his colleagues coalesced on opposing sides of an issue.

Trevor Tucker isn’t the only former School Board member running to rejoin the Board. Jill Woolbright, who served from 2020 to 2022, has filed for the District 1 seat against challenger Cathy Moon. Woolbright was defeated by Sally Hunt after a tumultuous year of political contention.

District 2 Board member Will Furry is currently running unopposed for re-election, having briefly chosen to run instead for the U.S. House of Representatives. The District 1 race could also gain an incumbent in the event Gov. Ron DeSantis chose to appoint a member to fill out the remainder of its term, which expires with this year’s elections. That hypothetical appointee would have to file for re-election before the deadline on May 11.
