38-year-old Palm Coast resident Alan Avellan Jr. was sentenced to three years in prison on Friday for multiple sex crimes against minors. The convictions came from two arrests of Avellan, occurring in October 2023 and March 2024, on a variety of charges. In addition to his prison sentence, Avellan will be required to register as a sex offender for life, and will serve eight years on sex offender probation.

Avellan’s first arrest came on October 12th, when he was said to have projected explicit images onto a screen in his residence in the presence of multiple children. He was also said to have exhibited himself undressed holding his genitals in his bedroom with the door open where these children could see. At least some of them were his relatives. He claimed at the time that his actions were a form of joke.

For that offense, Avellan was arrested and charged with distribution of obscene material to minors, a felony. He posted his $7,500 bond the day after his booking into the county jail. From there, he would remain free until he was re-arrested on October 30th, this time charged with aggravated child abuse and unlawful usage of a two-way communication device. He posted his $2,500 bond that day.

Avellan was again arrested on March 13th when the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said he was found with multiple videos on his cell phone depicting a female juvenile showering. He was located and arrested while at Tax Collector’s Office in Flagler Beach, and re-booked on a litany of new charges: sale of obscene material to a minor, aggravated child abuse, lewd/lascivious exhibition by an adult to a child under 16, three counts of unlawful usage of a two-way communication device, and two counts of video voyeurism by an offender over 24 against a child under 16. He’s been in custody ever since.

“This disgusting pervert knew his back was up against a wall because of the strong cases made against him by our Major Case Unit detectives so he decided to take a plea deal. While this means he will only be locked up for three years, he will remain a registered sex offender for life,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “This outcome is all in thanks to the courageous juveniles who came forward explaining what happened to them and the dedicated detectives and prosecutors with the State Attorney’s Office.”
