The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44-year-old Troy Mickens on Wednesday after a traffic stop revealed alleged cocaine possession, the agency announced. The Bunnell resident has multiple drug-related charges in Flagler County dating back to 2009.
Mickens was pulled over near Heroes Memorial Park in Palm Coast after detectives with the Problem Area Crime Enforcement (PACE) unit reportedly spotted his vehicle despite him having a suspended license. Furthermore, the state had a seize tag order on Mickens’ vehicle.
After Mickens was reportedly seen committing a traffic violation, he was pulled over and detectives verified what they believed to be true – that his license was indeed suspended. While the stop was ongoing, Mickens was said to have opened his cell phone and received a text message saying, “I got 3, what you need”.
Detectives conducted a search on Mickens’ vehicle, during which they’re said to have found a small plastic bag within a cigarette box underneath his driver’s seat. Inside the bag was 5.4 grams of a white substance which tested positive for cocaine. According to the FCSO, the weight and packaging was consistent with the sale and delivery of illegal drugs.
With the text message and packaging they’d found detectives arrested Mickens for possession of cocaine with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver within 1,000 feet of a park, a felony. He was also charged with one misdemeanor: driving with a suspended license.
Previous charges against Mickens in Flagler County include possession of oxycodone with intent to sell, aggravated domestic battery, fleeing or eluding an officer, and giving a false name to law enforcement.
“This guy should have thought twice before he drove with a suspended license, especially knowing he had cocaine in the vehicle ready for delivery,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “Excellent job by our PACE Unit getting this dirtbag and his poison off the street. He’s been to prison for dealing cocaine before, as well as a multitude of other offenses, but he obviously hasn’t learned his lesson. Time for him to go back for a long time.”
