An off-duty deputy with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office has resigned after being arrested for allegedly riding her motorcycle with a fictitious tag. 26-year-old Erica Muzzy was charged with possession of a counterfeit license plate and arrested on Sunday. She was booked into jail on $2,500 bond on Sunday, and was released after posting it in the early hours of the morning.

The incident began when Muzzy was reportedly spotted traveling west on I-4 in the Deltona area at around 11:07 pm Saturday. The tag on her motorcycle was said to have been flipped up so it wasn’t visible. A traffic stop was initiated, and when the responding deputy inspected the plate it read ‘CHASEM3’.

Just that same evening, Muzzy had reportedly been with other riders at a Wawa in Deltona when she fled from a traffic stop. One of the other riders was said to have called to Muzzy as she rode away. One rider in that incident was charged with fleeing or eluding law enforcement and booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on $2,500 bond. Further charges may come against some of the riders present at the Wawa incident, the VSO says.

Muzzy was hired at the VSO in 2021, and her most recent job assignment was in District 2, which covers DeLand and northwest Volusia County. She resigned following her arrest, and an internal affairs investigation is being conducted into the matter, the VSO said on Sunday. Already detectives have reportedly discovered a social media account in which Muzzy posted videos depicting ‘reckless stunt riding on public roads’.
