Flagler County Commissioner Greg Hansen will not be running for another term in office next year, he announced during Monday’s County Commission meeting. He’s been in office since January 2017, and was elected to full four-year terms in 2018 and 2022. Hansen will turn 79 years old in December.

“After a lot of thought I’ve decided not to run again,” Hansen said in the commissioner comments portion of Monday’s meeting. “It’s been a great ride. I’ve got a year and two months to get the beach funded. I’ll be working [on] that hard.” He went on to say that he announced his intention not to run well in advance of the 2026 election, so that other candidates have time to plan their campaigns.

Hansen initially landed in office after Commissioner Frank Meeker passed away during his term in 2017. Rick Scott, then Florida’s governor, appointed Hansen to fill out the remainder of Meeker’s term. In 2018 Hansen advanced past Abby Romaine in the Republican primary for re-election to his first full term, and then bested NPA candidate Dennis McDonald in the general election. He won another term in 2022, beating out Janet McDonald and Denise Calderwood.

As of Tuesday, only incumbent Commissioner Leann Pennington has filed to run for the Flagler County Commission in 2026. However, it’s still early in the process – only five total candidates have filed in any race across the county so far.
