The 2024 Hang 8 Dog Surfing Extravaganza took place on Saturday in Flagler Beach, the third annual running of the popular community event. Dozens of dog surfers took part in the competition, ranging from near and far to hit the Flagler Beach waves. Participating dogs competed in contests for both large and small breeds, as well as a costume contest on the beachside stage after the surfing concluded.

Thousands of attendees descended upon Flagler Beach, both to watch the dogs surfing and to check out the litany of local vendor tents along the beach boardwalk. No refreshments or food were sold, which organizer Eric Cooley said was a measure to get attendees into local businesses around town. His co-organizer, Suzie Johnston, added that it was easier for the duo to organize the event this year after two years of experience and learning the ropes.

Cute pictures. Too bad the waves weren’t a foot bigger. They looked happy in the water. A feel good event. Cowabunga!!
