Jon Moscowitz, a lieutenant with Flagler County Fire Rescue, has earned his ‘Fire Officer’ designation according to a statement from the county government. His new title comes after a review and decision by the Center for Public Safety Excellence, a nonprofit based in Virginia. The certification remains valid for three years.

Those who are designated as fire officers are those who are considered to have “demonstrated the highest level of competence, professionalism, and dedication to the fire service,” the county said. As of January, that applies to 814 individuals in the United States. By the judgment of his peers and superiors, Lt. Moscowitz is well-qualified to be among them.

“Lt. Moscowitz’s achievement is a significant milestone for our department,” said Fire Rescue Chief Mike Tucker. “His dedication to continuous improvement and his exemplary service makes him a role model for all our firefighters. We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and his commitment to serving the residents of Flagler County.”

According to his listed work experience, Moscowitz joined Flagler County Fire Rescue as a firefighter and flight paramedic in April 2008. In July 2021 he was promoted to lieutenant. While working with FCFR, Moscowitz attended Daytona State College, earning his Associate of Science in Emergency Management Technology in 2012 and his Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management with Concentration of Healthcare Administration in 2024.

“Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional skills and leadership, serving as a Flight Medic, lead Field Training Officer, and a member of the Advanced Life Support Team,” Tucker added. “His numerous accolades include being twice named Kiwanis Firefighter of the Year (2014, 2020, 2022), Emergency Management Emergency Medical Services Provider of the Year (2015), and receiving the Sons of the American Revolution Fire Safety Commendation (2016).”

Other awards and honors received by Lt. Moscowitz in his time with FCFR include the Company Officer of the Year (2024), Employee of the Year (2022), and American Legion Paramedic of the Year (2022). “Lt. Moscowitz’s designation as a Fire Officer not only highlights his personal achievements but also reflects the high standards and professionalism of Flagler County Fire Rescue,” Tucker further said. “His leadership and expertise will continue to be invaluable assets to the department and our community.”
