The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Taylor Crowningshield last week on both local and out-of-state charges, the agency announced Monday. Crowningshield was wanted in Vermont on more than one arrest warrant: she’s charged in the Green Mountain State with robbery, assault, and violation of probation stemming from May 2024.
Though her warrants are in Vermont, Crowningshield’s county jail records indicate she has a residence in Palm Coast’s B Section. On Friday, August 15th, the FCSO Community Policing Division alerted the FCSO Fugitive Unit that she was the suspect in a series of larcenies against local smoke shops.
Locating a Fugitive
As the FCSO began to investigate, a report from the agency says they looped in law enforcement back up in Vermont. The Barre City Police Department and Vermont Department of Corrections assisted in the investigation along with the FCSO Real Time Crime Center.
A deputy with the FCSO’s Fugitive Unit reportedly found Crowningshield in Palm Coast’s St. Joe Plaza on Monday, August 18th. She was said to have entered the Galaxy One Smoke Shop in the property’s strip mall. The deputy then reportedly saw her run out of Galaxy One, being chased by an employee. The lights on the deputy’s vehicle came on, and he attempted to pull her over.
Later, a visit back to Galaxy One yielded the conclusion that Crowningshield had stolen merchandise from the store. Management did not press charges, but did have her trespassed.
Crowningshield is said to have fled from the deputy and ignored multiple commands. She drove out of the St. Joe Plaza parking lot and onto Palm Coast Parkway, where she’s accused of escaping from the deputy’s sight. At least one more deputy with the Fugitive Unit joined the pursuit.
Arrest and Attempted Escape from Custody
Later on, Crowningshield was located at her residence on Bressler Lane. A deputy had already arrived there when she was said to have been seen pulling into the driveway. She was given orders to exit the car, which the FCSO said she refused. A deputy reportedly pulled her out, at which point she was finally handcuffed. Crowningshield told the deputy that she was scared and needed to speak with her partner. She also told deputies she was seven months pregnant.

Crowningshield was told of her Vermont arrest warrants, and more units were called to respond. The FCSO says she then got up and ran away on foot, before once again being subdued and placed in a patrol car. Crowningshield was charged with being a fugitive from justice, fleeing or eluding law enforcement, attempted escape, and nonviolent obstruction of justice. She’s been in jail since last Monday without bond.
“This woman was a fugitive and made the mistake of coming to Flagler County and then tried to steal from a local business,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “However, she quickly learned that that only gets you taken to jail. Thanks to great teamwork by our patrol deputies, Fugitive Unit, Real Time Crime Center, and law enforcement partners in Vermont, we quickly caught her and took her to the [county jail]. We will keep her in jail under no bond as a fugitive from justice until she is sent back to Vermont. I guess she should have fled to North Carolina and not Florida and especially Flagler County where we don’t play around!”
