Dune Restoration Project Shifting to Jungle Hut Park

The ongoing dune restoration project in Flagler Beach will be moving northward in the coming weeks. As July comes to a close and August begins, workers will bring their equipment from Varn Park to the region around Jungle Hut Beach.

Varn Park, located on SR-A1A just north of the Good Time Dog Bar, has been closed since the beginning June to accommodate the workers and machinery involved in the dune restoration. Many beachside residents expressed their disappointment at the closure, but it turned out to be relatively short-lived. Varn Park will reopen on July 31st.

Starting on July 28th, Jungle Hut Park will be closed part-time as workers move in to pick up restoration. Unlike the two-month closure of Varn Park, this closure won’t be absolute. Jungle Hut will be closed from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday until the restoration is complete. It will be open to the public outside of those hours and all day on the weekends. Work is estimated to take until mid-October.

“The contractor will need another three weekdays to demobilize and remove all equipment from Varn Park, so Varn will reopen on July 31,” said Flagler County Coastal Engineering Administrator Ansley Wren-Key. “They will need to close Jungle Hut starting on July 28, but it will only be closed only during operational hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the duration of the project. After 5 p.m. the parking lot access and restrooms will be open. Additionally, the park will be open on the weekends.”
