If you didn’t worry about the 90 million other spam calls received in a day, FCSO is now reporting a new scam with scammers impersonating law enforcement officers and claiming the receiver has an active warrant. Like anything else — the clues are in the requests from the scammer. FCSO reiterates that they will never ask for payment over the phone. Also, you wouldn’t be able to pay off a warrant over the phone. AskFlagler writers have also received these calls. One thing to note is if you hear a “bloop” sound effect before a voice starts, as this is the call being forwarded to a spam center from the automated dialer. A telltale sign of a scammer.
The FCSO has received reports of another phone scam where the scammer is impersonating law enforcement and claiming the victim has an active warrant and will be arrested unless they make immediate payment over the phone. The FCSO will NEVER accept payments over the phone to avoid jail time. If you receive a call like this HANG UP and call FCSO at 386-313-4911.
