Three of Flagler County’s most prominent recreation facilities will be undergoing partial closures for renovations during the month of December. Both the Flagler County government and the City of Palm Coast will be initiating repairs and improvements on some of their facilities.

In Palm Coast, James F. Holland Memorial Park and the Indian Trails Sports Complex will be undergoing maintenance amidst planned seasonal closures. In Flagler Beach, Wadsworth Park’s skate park facility is closing for about two and a half weeks for renovations and enhancements.

James F. Holland Memorial Park

At Holland Park, the splash pad area will be closing for the season on December 1st. It’s set to reopen for usage on March 1st, 2026. During that interim period the city will be replacing life floor tiles, replacing ultraviolet bulbs, doing maintenance on chlorinators, attending to the chemical system feeds, and doing repainting and repairs to the pavilion.

Beyond the splash pad, Holland Park’s two dog parks are closing from December 15th to 22nd. During this time, the city is going to be performing aeration and seeding of ryegrass to prepare for the colder weather of the winter months.

Indian Trails Sports Complex

The Indian Trails Sports Complex will be closed from December 8th to January 5th as seasonal reseeding is conducted on its 35 acres of fields. Like the Holland Park dog parks, it will be transitioning to ryegrass. Work has already begun as of Monday, and the four-week closure is intended to allow the seeds to germinate and reach one or two inches in length.

“We want to thank the residents and visitors to our facilities for their patience as we work to complete our annual transition process and make our fields play-ready throughout the colder months,” said Palm Coast Recreation Supervisor Joe Higgs. “As our Bermuda grass grows dormant this time of year, this process brings an added layer of protection and quality that allows our fields to be used year-round, which is a big benefit for everyone who visits our fields and facilities.”

According to a city spokesperson, the total cost of the work to both facilities comes out to $55,000. Most of that cost comes from the ryegrass seed and the top dressing sand for the fields and dog parks.

Wadsworth Park

At Wadsworth Park, the skating facility will be closed for 19 days as the equipment is upgraded and renovated. According to the county government, 60% of the equipment will be replaced. This includes ramps and grind rails, as well as the chain link fence surrounding the skate park. This project will cost $240,000.

“We will also make necessary concrete repairs,” said Flagler County General Service Director Mike Dickson. “The adjacent bathroom will also be repainted. This equipment has been well-used, and it shows. Our skateboarders, and their parents, will be happy to see the changes.”

The rest of Wadsworth Park will remain unaffected by the work on the skate park. This includes the basketball and racquet courts, playground, dog park, hiking trails, soccer/football fields, and baseball field.
