Lieutenant Jonathan Kaye of Flagler County Fire Rescue has been awarded the ‘fire officer’ designation by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE), the county government announced on Monday. The prestigious designation is reserved for those who ‘excel in risk management and mitigation, ensuring fire safety at every firefighting stage’, the county said.
“We are incredibly proud of Lt. Kaye for achieving the Fire Officer designation,” said Flagler Fire Chief Michael Tucker. “He is the second officer within the Flagler County Fire Rescue department to earn the Fire Officer designation, and he is continuing to help set the standard for all members of the department.”
Kaye began his career with Flagler County Fire Rescue over 11 years ago. As alluded to by Chief Tucker, Kaye is not the first employee of Flagler County Fire Rescue to be designated a fire officer. Lieutenant Jon Moscowitz also earned the same distinction in May of this year.
As of January 2025, the CPSE has 3,633 designated officers, 814 of which are fire officers. Flagler County can now say it has two of its very own among those ranks.
“Congratulations, Lt. Kaye, for earning your Fire Officer designation. This is a significant accomplishment and a reflection of your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to continuous growth in your career,” added Flagler County Administrator Heidi Petito. “We are proud to have individuals like you serving our community with such distinction. Thank you, Chief Tucker and Deputy Chief [Percy] Sayles, for your strong leadership and support in fostering a culture that encourages professional development and excellence within the department.”
