Palm Coast Man Arrested After ‘Possibly the Slowest Chase in FCSO History’

33-year-old Palm Coast resident Kyle McNary was arrested on September 25th after leading Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies on what the agency called “possibly the slowest chase in FCSO history”. Prior to the chase, McNary is accused of kicking a passenger out of the vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries.

McNary was booked into the county jail on what has amounted to five felony and four misdemeanor charges, thanks to two additional charges of battery on an officer and resisting arrest with violence. Those two charges resulted in his bond being revoked.

The incident reportedly began when McNary was driving with a male passenger in a black Kia Sorrento near the intersection of E Woodland St and SR-100. According to the victim who’d been kicked out, McNary was maintaining a speed of only 15 to 20 miles an hour. After complaints from the passenger, McNary is said to have pulled over so the pair could switch places. This is where things went off the rails.

The victim said McNary ran into the street and began to wave at passing cars. He was able to wrangle McNary back into the vehicle’s passenger seat, and tried to get into the driver’s seat himself. At this point McNary is said to have booted the victim out of the car and left him on the side of the road. A passerby saw the victim and let him sit in their own vehicle until law enforcement responded. The victim was not hurt.

McNary then reportedly drove to the intersection of US-1 and Otis Stone Hunter Rd, where he got into a collision that caused injuries. He’s said to have stopped short in the middle of the road, with the vehicle behind him rear-ending him. McNary is said to have driven away.

FCSO deputies were able to track the Sorrento down on US-1, still driving glacially slow per the incident’s report. Deputies with the FCSO and Bunnell Police officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, with McNary allegedly refusing to pull over. Stop sticks were deployed, puncturing one of McNary’s tires. It didn’t matter. He’s then said to have continued speeding away from the deputies at a breakneck pace of two to three miles per hour.

As the chase went on under rainy conditions, the Sorrento U-turned over the median multiple times before becoming lodged in a ditch. Deputies emerged from their vehicles and gave commands to McNary with their loudspeakers. He’s said to have ignored them. Deputies broke the rear window to see into the Sorrento, at which point McNary is said to have exited as commanded. He was then arrested.

McNary was charged with simple battery, failing to stop at a crash scene with serious injury, fleeing law enforcement, nonviolent obstruction, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, assault on an officer, and threats of death or serious harm. The Bunnell Police Department charged him with domestic battery. He was hospitalized before later being booked into jail.

The FCSO referenced another incident with McNary, when on August 29th of this year he was accused of swinging at a deputy, before continuing to fight after being taken to the ground. He was hospitalized then too, and allegedly threatened to fight the deputies more. Upon being unshackled from his hospital bed, he’s said to have tried biting a deputy before fighting against being re-handcuffed. He was taken back to jail and reportedly yelled racial slurs and death threats at the deputy taking him there.
