An Ohio man has been arrested for alleged threats against Randy Fine, the congressman representing Florida’s 6th district in the U.S. House of Representatives. 26-year-old Alex Miller of Columbus is accused of writing an email to Fine threatening to murder him and his family.
Miller has been charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure. He’s facing a potential maximum of five years in prison if convicted. His alleged threats were investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Capitol Police, and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
The message depicted above was reportedly sent to Randy Fine’s email address at 9:02 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18. This was the morning of the primary election in Florida, in which Fine faced several Republican challengers for the FL-6 congressional seat. Fine ultimately prevailed in the primary and secured the Republican nomination.
Dating back to his time in the Florida legislature, Randy Fine has been among the state’s more controversial elected officials. He has been known to use violent rhetoric when discussing foreign policy, leading to charged sentiments against him from those in ideological opposition. According to Fine, this is the fourth time a death threat has been made against him.
“There is no place in our political system for this,” Fine wrote on his X account. “And those who make these threats — whether to a Republican or Democrat — will go to prison for a very long time.”
Miller’s alleged description of Fine as a ‘Nazi’ is not the first such instance this month. During early voting, one of Fine’s campaign signs was found with a swastika spray-painted over it near a Flagler Beach polling place. Fine is Jewish and speaks outwardly in support of Israel in their ongoing Gaza military conflict. In recent years Fine has been no stranger to antisemitic language by some of those who oppose him.
Randy Fine will face Democrat Eric Yonce and Libertarian Andrew Parrott in the general election for Florida’s 6th congressional district on November 3. The district encompasses all of Flagler and Putnam counties, plus parts of Lake, Marion, St. Johns, and Volusia counties.
