PALM COAST – Christmas with Community Heroes, the charity event started retired law enforcement officer Larry Jones over ten years ago, was held on Friday. The event, started when Jones still served with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, works to bring Christmas gifts to underprivileged children of the community with donated funds.
The future of Christmas with Community Heroes, initially called Christmas with a Deputy, was placed in flux after Sheriff Rick Staly opted to pull the FCSO’s support from it in favor of his own ‘Shop with a Cop’. Jones continued on his own, and both charity events now occur each December, both utilizing the Walmart on Cypress Point Parkway in Palm Coast. The following photos of the event were provided by Lacy Martin, a volunteer for Christmas with Community Heroes.

What a great thing for the kids to do. However, I’m wondering with the two organizations doing this at this time of year. What is in place to prevent double dipping? let me explain. So a family that qualifies to take part in this even, what prevents them from taking part in the sheriff’s even and take away from another family in need. If there isn’t anything in place, there should defiantly should be. I guess next time I see Mr. Jones I’ll ask him.
