Gas prices in Florida are on the decline ahead of the 2026 Independence Day weekend, according to data from AAA. The statewide average cost of a gallon of gas was as low as $3.61 on Monday – the lowest figure since March – before rising to $3.68 as of Tuesday.

According to Tuesday’s county-by-county figures from AAA, both Flagler and Volusia counties are hovering right around the state average. Flagler County is listed at $3.67 with Volusia County at $3.69, putting each area one cent apart from the overall Florida figure on either side.

While Floridians are no doubt receptive to the prospect of falling gas prices, the cost to fill a tank is still well above what it was this time last year. As of July 4, 2025, the average cost of a gallon of gas in Florida was $3.11. In 2024 it was $3.53.

A major factor in the evolving cost of gasoline is the developing geopolitical situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States and Iran have reached a 60-day agreement to waive sanctions on the latter county’s oil, but the long-term stability in the region remains uncertain.

“Florida’s state average is now the lowest since early March,” said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins. “Lower gas prices come at an ideal time for summer travel and offer some financial relief for drivers. Still, the outlook remains uncertain. Developments involving the Strait of Hormuz will continue to influence whether prices rise or fall.”
