Cold Weather Shelters Opening Thursday in Flagler, Volusia Counties

Both Flagler and Volusia counties will be operating cold weather shelters Thursday night to provide sanctuary for those who don’t have the means to stay warm through a particularly frigid night. Flagler County is offering transportation assistance for those in need of help getting to the shelter.

Weather forecasts in Palm Coast project temperatures as low as 40 degrees overnight per The National Weather Service. Apple Weather’s forecast has the low as far down as 39.

Flagler County

Flagler County is opening one shelter for its residents located on US-1, with shuttle bus transportation from six pickup spots. The Sheltering Tree will be opening at The Rock Transformation Center, located at 2200 N State St, Bunnell, FL 32110. The Rock Transformation Center, formerly and colloquially known as Church on the Rock, is the county usual location for cold weather shelter operations.

More information is available by calling (386) 437-3258. Shuttle bus pickups will taking place at the following locations Thursday according to these schedules, per a release from the county.

East side of the county:

Volusia County

The Volusia County government announced there will be a shelter run by The Neighborhood Center at The Bridge in DeLand, located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave, DeLand, FL 32720. More information is available about the shelters by calling (386) 734-8120, ext. 601.

The shelter will be open from 6:30 pm on Thursday until 8:00 am. Guests who stay will receive breakfast in the morning. Those seeking shelter in east Volusia County are advised to contact Halifax Urban Ministries at (386) 317-5886.
