If you’ve got a Friday-night arrival and a Sunday-evening departure, here’s how to make the most of 48 hours in Palm Coast and Flagler Beach without trying to cram in too much.
Friday Evening
Arrive, check in, and head straight to Flagler Beach for sunset. Park anywhere along A1A — it’s that kind of town. Grab dinner at Finn’s Beachside Pub or, if you want something quieter, walk the few blocks of downtown and settle into one of the smaller spots tucked along Central Avenue. End the night with a beach walk; the Atlantic feels different at dusk.
Saturday Morning
Start with breakfast at Java Joint on A1A, a longtime local favorite for ocean views and unfussy food. From there, drive 10 minutes north on A1A to Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. Walk the formal gardens first (cooler in the morning), then cross A1A to the beach side for the famous coquina rock outcroppings.
Saturday Afternoon
Head back south for lunch at High Tides at Snack Jack, the casual Old Florida beach spot where the seafood is fresh and the deck looks straight at the Atlantic. After lunch, you have a choice: dolphin encounter at Marineland (book ahead) or a kayak paddle on Pellicer Creek through one of Flagler County’s outfitters. Both are worth it; pick based on your group’s vibe.
Saturday Evening
If it’s the first Friday — wait, that’s the wrong night. If it’s any other Saturday, head to European Village for dinner. The Mediterranean-style courtyard has a rotating mix of restaurants and is the closest thing Palm Coast has to a downtown nightlife scene. Live music is common on weekends.
Sunday Morning
Sunrise at Painters Hill or The Hammock — drive A1A north before dawn, pull off, watch the sun come up over the Atlantic. From there, breakfast at Oceanside Beach Bar & Grill in Flagler Beach for the wraparound windows facing the surf.
Sunday Late Morning
Hike Princess Place Preserve or the Lehigh Trail for a final dose of Florida wilderness. Both are free, both are quiet, both let you see why so many transplants end up moving here permanently.
Sunday Afternoon
Lunch at the Funky Pelican, then one last beach hour at Jungle Hut Park before you head to the airport or back up I-95. (If you have extra time, the historic St. Augustine is just 30 minutes north — easy to add a half-day stop to the trip.)
Where to Stay
For luxury, Hammock Beach Resort. For mid-range with character, Compass Hotel by Margaritaville Flagler Beach. For budget-friendly, the Beach Front Motel or one of the Flagler Beach vacation rentals along A1A.
