Gas prices in Florida are on the rise after trending marginally downward over the last week, according to data from AAA. The average cost of a gallon of gas in Florida as of Tuesday is $4.08.
Gas prices in Florida and the United States are generally higher than they were this time last year. Florida in particular had an average cost of $3.07 per gallon a year ago. Motorists may see gas get more expensive again in the near future.
“Florida gas prices have seesawed week to week, after peaking earlier this month,” said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins. “They may move higher again soon, following increases in both oil and wholesale gasoline prices.”
The rising cost of gas is attributed largely to economic uncertainty in the Strait of Hormuz amid Iran’s ongoing blockade. The Iranian government closed off the waterway, which is crucial to global shipments, in response to the war against their country launched by the United States and Israel in February.
As of Tuesday, local gas prices are slightly higher than the state average. Flagler County is $4.14 according to AAA, while Volusia County sits at $4.10.
