BUNNELL – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has announced that its first class of graduates have completed their Pre-HVAC course as sanctioned by Flagler Technical College. They received apprenticeship certificates that are intended for use in re-entering the job force once they’re released back into the world.

The course was six months long and focused on the technology of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). The graduation rate in this first group was 100%. In addition to receiving their apprenticeship certificates, the inmates also passed a test required by the Environmental Protection Agency for aspiring HVAC professionals.

Statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics cited in the FCSO’s news release projected a 13% growth rate in the HVAC field between now and the end of 2028. The release also cited a median salary of $50,000 for the profession.

“The Homeward Bound Initiative has been a great partnership with Flagler Technical College to help inmates achieve real world skills that can help them be successful in our community,” said Sheriff Rick Staly of the program. “It’s my preference to provide opportunities for inmates to be better citizens rather than going through a revolving door at the jail and help our local businesses find skilled labor that’s ready to go. I’m very proud of our Detention team and our partnership with FTC that makes these programs possible.”

I’m sure when they get out they will not have a problem with finding a job especially with all the new developments this city approved.
    Congrats to them all.
