UPDATE: The shelter’s operation has been extended to Thursday, after initially being announced for Monday through Wednesday.

A cold weather shelter will be opening in Flagler County from Monday to Wednesday this week as temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees. The Sheltering Tree is operating their shelter from the usual location: The Rock Transformation Center off US-1, formerly known as Church on the Rock.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop as far as the low 30s on Tuesday night. The frigid conditions will be made worse by winds gusting up to 25 miles per hour Monday evening. The NWS further predicts frost around the county when residents wake up on Wednesday.
