The local nonprofit Flagler Cares has announced its new ‘Keep the Holiday Light On’ program, an initiative designed to assist families who need help with their electric bill during the month of December. The project also doubles as a celebration of Flagler Cares’ tenth year in operation serving the community.

According to the group’s announcement on Friday, they are seeking donations to help sponsor one hundred homes in Flagler County with up to $100 per home for their electric bills next month. This would entail a donation goal of $10,000 to meet the maximum amount Flagler Cares is hoping to give.

“Flagler Cares staff spend a good part of the workday learning about the struggles of our neighbors who grapple with making ends meet each month,” said Flagler Cares CEO Carrie Baird. “Our hope with this fundraiser is to ensure families have this basic need met during the month of December. We also have in mind our senior neighbors living on fixed incomes who could use this assistance, making the holidays a little less stressful. We hope this initiative will inspire members of our community to join us and extend support to our most vulnerable neighbors by ‘Keeping the Holiday Lights On.'”

How to Help

Donations can be given through November 30th on Flagler Cares’ website. $100 is suggested to sponsor one entire home, but the organization is eagerly accepting whatever amount a donor can give. Donations can be sent via PayPal or Zeffy, or donors can also send their checks through the mail (160 Cypress Point Pkwy, Building B, 3rd floor, Suite 302, Palm Coast, FL 32164). In-person drop-offs are welcome as well.

Those who are in need of this assistance will also have an avenue to apply to be a beneficiary of the ‘Keep the Holiday Lights On’ program. Those hoping to get in contact with Flagler Cares are asked to call (386) 319-9483, ext 0, with questions.
