The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating three recent major motorcycle accidents that happened in the city, the department announced Friday. The incidents took place from October 18th to October 23rd, at three different locations in Daytona Beach.

Though reports of serious injuries from accidents were down from last year, the 2025 Biketoberfest event in Daytona Beach resulted in around two dozen people being treated at the Halifax Health Medical Center’s trauma unit alone. The majority of those admitted were reportedly not wearing a helmet, according to the hospital.

North Atlantic Avenue

Coming first in the three accidents was one that occurred on Saturday, October 18th at 1:07 am. Officers with the DBPD were dispatched to the 1600 block of North Atlantic Ave after a caller reported there were injuries in a major wreck.

Officers found two motorcycles on-scene with ‘serious injuries’, the department says. They’d crashed while riding through an active work zone which had been designated by the requisite safety markings. The DPBD identified the at-fault biker as Lonnie Langkabel, who was said to have rear-ended another motorcycle causing both of them to fall.

The rider of the other motorcycle was hospitalized and later released. Langkabel was still hospitalized as of Friday, listed in critical condition. The department stated that a video has been circulating online ‘showing Langkabel prior to the collision’, which they say will be a part of their investigation. Whether criminal charges will be brought against anyone involved remains unclear.

North Halifax Avenue & Columbus Avenue

The next incident occurred on Tuesday, October 21st at around 6:17 pm. Officers were called to the scene of a crash at the intersection of North Halifax Ave and Columbus Ave, where there was reportedly a large accident with injuries. Like the one three days prior, this wreck also involved a motorcycle.

According to the DBPD, 37-year-old Lyndon Foster was seen by witnesses riding recklessly in the area. At some point he collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck, causing him to be severely injured. Foster was hospitalized, and later succumbed to his wounds. His next of kin have been notified of his death, police say.

It was also mentioned by the DBPD that Foster did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of his death. Beyond that, he also didn’t have the proper endorsement to ride a motorcycle.

South Clyde Morris Boulevard & Beville Road

The third of the accidents occurred on Thursday, October 23rd at around 6:30 am. Like the first two crashes, a motorcycle was involved.

This time, police say they were called to the intersection of South Clyde Morris Blvd and Beville Road where a Nissan and motorcycle had collided. The preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that the biker had apparently lost control, hit the median, and been thrown from their bike.

After falling into the roadway, the Nissan is said to have hit the biker. They were hospitalized with what was described as ‘life-threatening injuries’. That biker too, sadly, passed away. As of Friday the DBPD did not release the biker’s identity while their next of kin are notified of the deadly accident.

Man I sure hope the two motorcycles in the first crash that had serious injuries make a full recovery.
