A man accused of committing a carjacking was arrested at a Palm Coast Wendy’s Saturday morning. Though the incident was widely rumored to be an active shooter situation on social media, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office called those claims false.

The suspect in the carjacking was 31-year-old Lee Miller. According to the FCSO, Miller stole a car using a knife in Volusia County. There were reportedly a woman and children in the vehicle. The FCSO was contacted by the VSO for assistance when the suspect was reported to be heading north into Flagler County.

Stop sticks were deployed by FCSO deputies to puncture the vehicle’s tires. Miller is said to have abandoned it near the Old Kings Road Wendy’s and taken off on foot. A team began searching for him, including Flagler’s FireFlight helicopter, a K-9 Unit, and a drone team.

Miller was reportedly located nearby and taken into custody. He’s been charged in Flagler County with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and child neglect. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office will also presumably be charging Miller for the carjacking itself, but those details have not been announced as of Saturday afternoon.

The woman in the car was initially believed to be a victim of the carjacking. According to the FCSO, she is now believed to have been involved along with Miller. As of Saturday the investigation is still ongoing.

“This guy made the mistake of trying to flee into our county and thinking he could get away from our deputies,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “There’s nowhere you can hide from FCSO, and he just ended up caught and sweaty from all the running he did.”
