BUNNELL – 25 year-old Nysean Giddens of Bunnell has been indicted for first degree murder by the State Attorney’s Office in connection to the overdose death of 37 year-old Shaun Callahan in 2020. Giddens was previously charged with manslaughter, but now sees himself facing life in prison.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Giddens sold fentanyl to Callahan in September 2020 which directly led to his death. A grand jury found there to be enough evidence to warrant the murder charge this week, almost three years following the initial event.
The FCSO said they found more fentanyl on Giddens’ person when they arrested him, in addition to cannabis in his personal vehicle. He’s charged with not only first degree murder, but also for cannabis possession, cocaine sale, controlled substance sale, two counts of unlawful use of a communication device, and violation of pretrial release.
According to the FCSO’s Thursday release, Giddens admitted to at least part of his purported involvement in the incident when informed of Callahan’s death. He reportedly admitted to delivering cocaine to Callahan the night before the overdose, but it was ultimately fentanyl that was later found in Callahan’s room by detectives.
“Sadly, this dirtbag poison peddler was on pre-trial release when he sold the fatal dose,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I’m very proud of our detectives who worked quickly to identify and apprehend this poison peddler before he could sell more fatal poison. I also want to thank the Grand Jury and State Attorney Larizza for getting us one step closer to locking away this deadly drug-dealer for good. While these cases take time and are difficult to make let this arrest be a reminder to drug dealers – we investigate every overdose death as a murder. If you kill someone with your poison, we will do everything we can to lock you up for a very long time, hopefully for life!”

Glad he will be put away for a long time if he’s found guilty.
