A 13-year-old boy in Flagler County was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill another teenager over social media. The suspect was accused of sending the messages directly to the victim on Instagram.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about the threats on Tuesday, July 7. The mother of the teenager who received the messages called 911, reporting what her 13-year-old son had been sent.
According to the FCSO, the victim was sent photos of the suspect holding a handgun. He was said to have written, ‘Tn 8:00 pm we be there we alr got lo’. This, per the FCSO, is shorthand for ‘Tonight 8:00 p.m. we be there we already got location’.
Deputies interviewed the victim, who said he believed the other teen was planning to arrive at his home at the aforementioned time. Once there, he said he believed the suspect was planning on shooting him.
Prior to these threats being made, the victim told deputies that he and the suspect were friends. At some point in time, the two apparently had a disagreement and were no longer on good terms. They were communicating earlier in the day and were apparently planning on having a fight.
Deputies located and arrested the suspect, whose identity was not specified. He was taken first to the Flagler County Jail, and later to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.
“Threats are no joke, and we take every threat seriously. This teen had already made plans to fight the victim, and he made it clear it wasn’t going to be a fistfight,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “I want to remind parents to stay engaged in what their kids are doing online and who they’re talking [to]. Teach them the proper way of handling disagreements and be the Sheriff of your home.”
