Cypress Point Pkwy Access Road Closed Due to Sinkhole

ⓒ City of Palm Coast

The access road at Cypress Point Parkway has been closed until further notice by the Palm Coast Public Works Department, the city announced on Tuesday. According to the announcement, unstable ground was found beneath the road in a recent inspection causing unsafe driving conditions. A city spokesperson on Wednesday confirmed it was believed to be a sinkhole.

The road in question connects Cypress Point Parkway to the Winn-Dixie shopping center in north Palm Coast. It’s also an entryway to Ameris Bank and SouthState Bank, which are located on either side of the access road. The property is owned by Vesta Property Services, who would ultimately be responsible for the work needed to restore it to safety.

All businesses in question still have other points of access that will remain in use during this closure. The two banks are reachable through Cypress Edge North, the plaza entrance at the Cypress Point Parkway traffic light, and Palm Coast Parkway Southwest.

According to the city, the area has been monitored for multiple years by the Stormwater Department and Code Enforcement Department. It’s been known to have ‘concerns’ for some time, but the city says that the present condition has deteriorated enough so that the road is no longer safe to drive on.

No other details were provided by the city so far, but their announcement says updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
