Jermaine Williams Indicted for First Degree Murder in Wife’s Killing

ⓒ AskFlagler

Bunnell’s Jermaine Williams Sr. was indicted for first degree murder on Wednesday, in connection to the stabbing death of his wife earlier this month. Williams, 52, is accused of stabbing his wife to death in the street in front of their home near the intersection of South Pine Street and MLK Avenue.

Williams has been in custody at the county jail since August 2nd, where he will likely remain until his murder charge is resolved. It’s his third being booked into the county jail, following a 2022 arrest for domestic assault and battery plus witness tampering, and another the next month for false imprisonment.

“In the Seventh Judicial Circuit, one in five murders we prosecute are domestic-related,” said State Attorney R.J. Larizza about Williams’ case. “As a community, we must continue creating and providing resources to empower, assist, and protect domestic violence survivors. Otherwise, the death and despair domestic violence breeds will go unanswered.” Assistant State Attorney Jennifer Dunton will be heading up the prosecution of Williams, building off of the investigative work of the Bunnell Police Department and Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

Though Williams’ case has the potential for any number of unexpected twists and knots, reports from the scene of the murder paint a grisly picture with a bleak outlook for the defendant’s future. Law enforcement claims they have eyewitnesses that saw Williams kill his wife, the late Yolanda Williams. Jermaine’s own father reportedly pointed a gun at his son to stop the stabbing, shortly after witnesses heard him say “I’m tired of this sh*t”.

The altercation is said to have arisen over a dispute about the living situation of the couple. Having previously had serious domestic issues, they’d struck up an arrangement where Williams would sleep in his truck out front according to reports from the BPD. One morning when Yolanda’s vehicle broke down when she was going to leave for work, an argument over the arrangement apparently boiled over resulting in Jermaine allegedly grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing her multiple times in the road. She later succumbed to her wounds at the hospital.
