Two Palm Coast residents were arrested Friday for allegedly fleeing a crash in the R Section, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office says. 43-year-old Nina Holley and 38-year-old Matthew Green were both charged with multiple felonies after being taken into custody.
The crash in question occurred on August 28 at Russell Drive and Ruth Drive. Deputies were called to the scene where they were told a silver Dodge Ram truck hit another vehicle before leaving. The Ram was said to have hit the other vehicle “with enough force to break his engine block and injure the driver”. The two occupants allegedly gathered the broken parts of their own truck from the road and drove away.
One witness to the crash told deputies they saw a truck matching the description of the one from the accident speeding away from that area, with noticeable damage to its front end. A subsequent tip sent deputies to a residence on nearby Roxbury Lane.
Over the coming week and a half, the investigation into the hit-and-run continued. A nearby residential surveillance camera reportedly captured the Ram truck returning to the Roxbury Lane residence around three minutes after the crash occurred. One occupant was said to have run to the front door, as the other occupant opened the garage. Once the door opened, the truck was apparently driven inside with the door then closing behind it. This, the FCSO says, was an effort to hide the truck from view.
Soon thereafter the FCSO identified Holley and Green as the two suspects. Holley had a suspended driver’s license when the crash occurred. She was arrested on Friday, charged with driving with a suspended license (third or subsequent offense), evidence tampering, and failure to remain at the scene of a crash with injuries. Holley was released the same day on $7,500 bond.
Green, meanwhile, was charged with evidence tampering and accessory after the fact to a third degree felony. On Saturday two more charges were added: possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia. As of Monday Green remains in custody without bond.
Both suspects have arrests on record prior to this latest incident. Holley has numerous charges, and felony convictions for selling or possessing controlled substances with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a park, possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia, petty theft, retail theft, and trespassing. Green has been convicted of selling oxycodone, attempted robbery, grand theft of a firearm, battery, retail theft, and attempted burglary.
On August 6 the FCSO was dispatched to the same Roxbury Lane home to serve a search warrant following a fatal drug overdose. Green was one of three suspects arrested, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance without a prescription as well as evidence tampering.
“You can try to hide the evidence, but you can’t hide it from the Sheriff’s Office,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “These two crashed into someone, injured them, and then figured picking up the pieces and shutting the garage door would make it all disappear. If you cause a crash and run, we are going to find you and hold you accountable.”
