Flagler Schools Closed Until Monday for Hurricane Ian

The Flagler County school district has announced that due to the imminent impact of Hurricane Ian, all public schools will be closed until Monday next week.

“This is not a decision we take lightly, but we want to give our families enough time to prepare their homes for this storm or evacuate the area if they feel that is the best option for them,” said Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt of the decision. “We also need to use this time to prepare the emergency shelter space our campuses offer, should people be asked to evacuate.”

All extracurricular and after-school activities have been cancelled through the end of the week as well. The district is opening Bunnell Elementary School as general/pet shelter for the storm, and Rymfire Elementary School as a special needs shelter. SAT testing at Matanzas High School has been postponed from October 1st to October 15th.

The latest projections by meteorologists show Ian striking Tampa within hours and making a path over the state through to Flagler County. Residents east of I-95 are expected to be asked to evacuate at some point in the next couple days.

Glad everyone gets to do what they think is right for them and their families. But I heard about three hours ago the flagler county will get rain and high winds. I’m also glad that the school kids that stand at the corner by my house, will not be throwing trash on the ground and it will look clean again for at least 5 days. Come Mon. though there will be their trash again.
    Be safe.
