In a first for presidential politics, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is reportedly announcing his bid for President tonight on Twitter Spaces. DeSantis has been considered a likely candidate for President for some time, but the nature of his announcement comes as some surprise.
Twitter Spaces is a virtual audio chat feature popularized after the purchase of the social media site by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk. Though Musk reportedly voted for both Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden in the most recent presidential elections, he has named DeSantis as a candidate he’d potentially support, and he will be a part of the announcement.
DeSantis hops into an already crowded field of candidates hoping to face Joe Biden in 2024. Already the race includes ex-President Donald Trump, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, Senator Tim Scott, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, talk show host Larry Elder, and corporate executive Vivek Ramaswamy.
Already DeSantis has clashed with Trump on the campaign trail, with Trump heavily criticizing DeSantis’ tenure as Governor and DeSantis downplaying the political relationship the two once had. Polling tends to support the notion that Trump and DeSantis would fare the best in a general election matchup against Biden, but the incumbent president is still projected to top both Republicans in the majority of matchups in major polling results.

As a registered Independent and always voting for the person I find the best for the Presidency. I think DeSantis should wait 4 more years before he try’s to be President. IMO, He has done great things for Florida as Governor, but as President it will be a whole different story. Especially doing something that would be great for everyone, but the left will twist it and try to make it bad. They did it with everything Trump did when he was the President just because they didn’t like him. I wish the Gov. luck, but I don’t think he’ll win. Trump has it in the bag as long as the Democrats don’t cheat again like in the last election.
