Orange County, Fla – Governor Desantis statewide requirement that people be at least 60 years old to get their COVID-19 vaccination shots sees a massive drop in Orange County.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings told county officials to let the state know they’ll be making a change to allow anyone 40 years or older to receive the shot in the Orange County Convention Center. There are no requirements for anyone’s job or medical conditions.
Demings also mentioned that you don’t need to be an Orange County resident to receive the vaccine.
The convention site administers 3,000 shots a day at its current rate, but Major Deminings stated that this is likely to increase.
When asked about being proactive and allowing non-Florida residents to get vaccainations, Demings stated, “I don’t feel like I need to get permission to be the mayor of Orange County from Tallahassee.”
The mayor also shrugged off criticisms while protestors held out, “RECALL DEMINGS” signs at the conference:
“I believe we’re on the right side of what’s proper and just. We’re certainly on the right side of the law,” he said. “They may not agree with what we’re doing but hopefully they understand why we’re doing it.”
