Daytona Tortugas catcher Alfredo Duno has been named the 2025 Most Valuable Player in the Florida State League. 19-year-old Duno is one of the most highly-touted prospects currently playing in the Cincinnati Reds’ minor league system.

In 113 games with the Tortugas this year, Duno put up numbers indicative of a future star. He posted a .287 batting average and a .430 on-base percentage, with 18 home runs to boot. With 95 walks on the year against 91 strikeouts, Duno showed mature plate discipline and strong enough batted-ball skills to offset his free swing.

Duno’s numbers aren’t just impressive within the context of the 2025 season. He set several all-time Tortugas records: his totals of 95 walks, 81 runs batted in, .430 on-base percentage, and .948 on-base-plus-slugging marks are the best ever put forth in team history. The solid 2025 campaign included three times that Duno was named FSL Player of the Week, and the August honor of Player of the Month.

Moving forward, Duno is expected to reach Major League Baseball by 2028, according to data from MLB.com. The Venezuelan-born catcher is currently rated as the third best prospect in the Reds’ system, and was most recently ranked as the fourth best international prospect in all of baseball.
