Flagler Broadcasting, Grace Community Food Pantry Holding 3rd Million Dollar Food-a-Thon

ⓒ AskFlagler

For the third year running, Flagler Broadcasting and Grace Community Food Pantry are banding together to hold the Million Dollar Food-a-Thon, an initiative to raise money to buy food for families in need. The event will be kicking off on Friday, July 12th at 9:00 am and running live on-air until 3:00 pm. Flagler Broadcasting President David Ayres and VP Kirk Keller will be the event’s hosts for the duration of the event.

The goal of the event is to raise one million dollars worth of food for the less fortunate, which organizers say can make a real impact on hunger in the community. Donations will work on a 5:1 wholesale buying ratio, and so a theoretical $100 donation would have the power to purchase $500 in food according to Flagler Broadcasting’s Tuesday news release. Thus, only $200,000 in monetary contributions would be needed to account for $1 million worth of food.

Tackling an Everyday Crisis

The $1 million goal is the mark Grace Community Food Pantry says would enable them to equip local families in need with $500 per week for the rest of the year. With that need taken care of, families would have more flexibility to handle other expenses like utilities, car payments, and child care.

“The Food-A-Thon goal is to raise enough money so we can purchase one million dollars in healthy fresh foods for those local families in need”, said Pastor Charles Silano, the food pantry’s director. “Today’s inflation & high food costs are leaving many people short of cash to pay rent, car payments, school clothes and other necessities of life. We would rather have them pay for those things by saving money on food.”

How to Donate

Flagler Broadcasting is asking organizations interested in contributing to amass their collective monetary donations between now and next Friday, when the Food-A-Thon takes place. Individuals who want to donate can bring in their contributions to the station (2405 E. Moody Blvd, Bunnell, FL 32110) or call the studio at (386) 206-9693. Additionally, an online resource to donate will be available at FlaglerBroadcasting.com.

“Many families in our community are really hurting, kids go to bed hungry so we are asking those who can help to make a donation,” Ayres said of the Food-A-Thon. 100% of the proceeds from the event will be going directly to Grace Community Food Pantry.

So, we send $200 billon to Ukraine to fund their government and war, spend a trillion dollars on a electric vehicle push/ green energy flop, pay for sex-change operations for prisoners and military, yet kids go to bed hungry? What do they say, “Your country might be run by idiots if….?”
