BUNNELL – Two brothers who were both convicted of child molestation against the same juvenile victim have now both been sentenced to prison for their crimes. 19-year-old Marcian Thompson Jr. and 22-year-old Ja’Vere Lumpkins were both given the same sentence: six years in prison plus nine years of sex offender probation and registration.

The charges levied against the two men were slightly different despite their similar sentences. Thompson was convicted of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 years old by and offender under 18 years old, as well as lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim 12 to 16 years old by an offender under 18 years old. Lumpkin, meanwhile, was convicted of two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 years old by an offender under 18 years old.

Arrests were made in the alleged molestation case back in July 2022, when both suspects were taken in without incident. Lumpkins was arrested at his residence in the B Section of Palm Coast, while Thompson was apprehended in Orlando at his residence there, with assistance from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

“I commend our Major Case Unit for solving a difficult case and getting these perverted dirtbags off the streets,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly after the two men’s conviction. “Anyone who takes away a child’s innocence away deserves to stay behind bars forever. I hope these arrests allow some closure to the victims and their families and they are able to get the help they need. And to anyone who thinks they’ll get away with preying on our children, here’s the reminder that we will not stop until you’re arrested and unable to hurt another child ever again! I would also like to thank the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.”
