A teenager in Palm Coast’s B Section assisted in a dramatic escape from a burning home on Tuesday. 17-year-old Logan Pacarro is credited with helping his neighbor climb to safety as their home went up in flames on Burning Ember Lane.

The fire occurred during the day Tuesday, drawing a large response from the Palm Coast Fire Department. Pacarro said he noticed the flames and went outside to investigate. It was then he heard his neighbor yelling for help. “I look out my window and I just see a big flame of fire on my neighbor’s roof,” he said. “I ran out of my room, and told my mom to call 911.”

From there, Pacarro described acting quickly and decisively. “I ran back inside, grabbed the ladder, ran back out, went to the neighbor’s house, and then tossed the ladder over the fence so then he can reach it and he would be able to climb out,” Pacarro said.

The PCFD arrived shortly after noon, bringing three fire engines and a battalion. Personnel from the Flagler Beach Police Department also responded, bringing a fire ladder. No doubt thanks in part to Pacarro’s heroics, no one was injured in the incident.

As hectic as the whole situation was, Pacarro said things happened so fast that he didn’t necessarily feel scared. “It was quick thinking,” he said. “Save the man and get to safety.” That quick and selfless reflex has earned him the praise of his community, with one Flagler Sheriff’s deputy even telling him he was a hero for his actions.
