37-year-old Palm Coast resident Sarah Wright was arrested last week for allegedly leaving the scene of a crash in Deltona that injured a 16-year-old. Wright was taken into custody by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Wright was driving her Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck near the intersection of Gage Avenue and Noah Street on Thursday, shortly before 4:00 pm. As she was driving, the VSO says Wright hit the teenager as he was riding home from school on his scooter.

The teen was thrown from the scooter, hitting ground and suffering what the VSO called a ‘serious laceration to the back of his head’. Despite this injury, however, he was reportedly awake and alert when he left the scene of the accident. After receiving staples and treatment for an arm injury, the teenager is expected to make a full recovery.

One witness to the incident reportedly told the VSO that the driver of the truck got out to check on the teenager, then went back to cover up her license plate with tape and paper. That witness seeing the first number on the plate plus footage from a nearby Ring doorbell camera allowed detectives to identify Wright as the suspect in the hit-and-run.

Records with the Flagler County jail show Wright, a resident of Palm Coast’s P Section, was charged with failure to stop and remain at a crash with injuries and two charges related to driving with a suspended or revoked license. Though the VSO initially reported her bond at $3,500, records show it at $7,000. She was released after posting her bond on Friday.

Glad they caught her. But she shouldn’t have been given bail and should spend 35 years in jail with no plea deal, no early release and no parole. Period.
